Episode 07: Rahr & Sons, Fritz Rahr

The Rahr family began brewing beer in the Midwest in 1847, but switched gears during prohibition to solely malt producing the malt needed for beer production. Instead of joining the family business, Fritz Rahr settled in Fort Worth after graduating from TCU and began climbing the corporate ladder.

Eventually, Fritz tried his hand at home brewing and realized being a brewer was in his blood. Fritz launched Rahr & Sons in 2004 with support from his Near Southside neighbors — a community that really rallied when the brewery’s roof collapsed in the winter of 2010. Not only did Rahr & Sons survive the disaster, but they’ve since won national and international awards.

For Fritz, what makes it worthwhile is seeing people enjoy the drinks he’s made.
